    R&D Test Engineer







    Position Purpose







    This position will work closely with laboratory management and the product development team to ensure all specification requirements are effectively and efficiently tested for Avanos products. In addition, this position is also responsible for the physical, mechanical, and chemical tests of current and new product designs.







    Job Position Accountabilities / Expectations

                      Job Specific Responsibilities:









                      • Will be actively involved in writing, and maintaining work instructions to carry out product testing under the direction of lab management or the test requestor.







                        • Will be actively involved in test method development with other engineering departments including the physical design, setup, and ruggedness testing of new methods.







                          • Will be actively involved in writing and owning old and new test equipment use work instructions.







                            • Will be actively involved in test method validation including coordinating and participating in the execution of the validation.







                              • Will be actively involved in equipment calibration, including the evaluation, purchase, & validations of test equipment as well as lead out of tolerance investigations.







                                • Will be active user of the quality system (EtQ), including equipment profiles, test methods, protocls. Will be exposed to and access design control documentation such as product specifiactions, user needs, etc.







                                  • Will be actively involved in developing laboratory processes. Will help drive compliance and changes as needed.







                                    • Will be actively involved in the administration and use of the laboratory information system (EtQ, LIMS). Will be responsible for interfacing with various departments to design and maintain testing projects in LIMS for technicians to use to electronically collect data. Will be responsible for ensuring full lab compliance with LIMS utilization from project request, data entry, review, and results reporting.







                                      • Will be actively involved in QNC/CAPA processes, can determine necessary action items to document root causes, and drive their closures.







                                        • Will be actively involved in of stability management and testing at a basic level, can coordinates and track stability projects.







                                          • Will train and and coordinate training of staff on equipment and test methods.







                                            • Will be actively involved in supplier & vendor qualification for calibration, staffing, and testing services in terms of project needs within time/budget requirements.







                                              • Will be actively involved in interfacing with lab customers (test requestors) as a technical resource for the lab. This will include development of test methods, results, training, and project management in general, and to seek clarification and directions as needed. Will seve as a technical interface to the laboratory regarding testing capability, project status updates, analysis of test results, and test results reporting. Must understand and pursue customer satisfaction while remaining committed to impartiality and performing all testing in an unbiased manner.







                                                • Will be actively involved in participating in internal audits and preparing for external audits.







                                                  • May assist sample management coordinator, and contribute to the proper inventorying, storage, and disposition of test samples.







                                                    • Will serve as a technical reviewer for most internal test methods. Can train and qualify new reviewers.







                                                      • Will be involved in planning Lean / 6S / 6 sigma projects. Must set an example of manitaining a clean and organized work space.







                                                        • Will learn and develop testing automation equipment / routines to simplify and expedite testing.







                                                          • Will be actively involved in pursuing the improvement of laboratory metrics, customer feedback, addressing complaints.







                                                            • Will be actively involved with understanding product specification and working with other R&D departments.







                                                              • Will learn and be familiar with external test methods (consensus standards, etc.), will evaluate their suitability for product testing, and will adapt them as necessary into internal company test methods.









                                                                Qualifications







                                                                Required:





                                                                • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or biomedical sciences.







                                                                  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.







                                                                    • Ability to organize and present data in a clear and concise manner.









                                                                      Preferred:





                                                                      • 1+ years minimum experience performing testing and/or inspection in a laboratory setting or manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device industry.







                                                                        • Experience using laboratory tools/instrumentation including (calipers, micrometers, vision systems, tensile testers, etc).







                                                                          • Working knowledge of other laboratory software and mechanical drafting a plus.

                                                                          • Average or better verbal and written communications skills.













                                                                            Specialized or Essential Knowledge Required









                                                                            • Working knowledge of CAD.







                                                                              • Familiar with ISO, ANSI, AAMI, ASTM standards for testing.







                                                                                • Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices.







                                                                                  • Basic hand tool operation and use, i.e. torque wrench.







                                                                                    • Use of precision measuring tools, i.e. calipers, micrometer, depth gauge.







                                                                                      • Self starter.









                                                                                        Physical Demands









                                                                                        • Eyesight correctable to 20/20.







                                                                                          • Able to lift 50 pounds, occasionally.







                                                                                            • Able to stand for prolonged periods.
