collaborate with other health care providers Competency in all
aspects of GI procedures Ability to function in stressful and
emergent situations Description: The Endoscopy Technician I
possesses little to no experience in endoscopy or is a novice in
the endoscopy setting. The technician assists the nurses and
physicians in providing care for endoscopy patients. They must
complete competencies for all basic GI procedures and scope
reprocessing. The role includes preparation of the procedure room
and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment. This
includes gathering all required instruments and supplies. The
technician serves as an endoscopy procedure assistant. Additional
responsibilities include transportation of patients and equipment,
stocking and maintaining supplies. Care and maintenance of
endoscopes and accessories contribute to the daily functions of the
unit. The technician has a strong sense of infection control in the
GI setting. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Proficiency in all general endoscope procedures, equipment, and
supplies, including cleaning endoscopes and accessories is
required. The technician fulfills all essential functions of the GI
Lab Technician and functions in all areas of the Endoscopy lab.
Preparation for scheduled, emergent, urgent, and add-on endoscopic
procedures must be ensured. The technician must anticipate the
needs of the physician and nurse during procedures. They are
required to operate all equipment in GI and provide technical
assistance during procedures. Emergency call coverage after normal
operating hours and weekends may be necessary per department needs.
Knowledge of infection control principles and standards is
essential. The technician demonstrates effective and professional
communication skills. They work as a collaborative team member. The
technician assists with the planning of daily assignments and
distribution of work. Assisting in the trial and evaluation of new
equipment and supplies is part of the job. Functioning in a manner
aligned with quality care, patient satisfaction, professional
standards, and safety is essential. Maintaining confidentiality and
supporting evidence-based practice and ethical accountability is
required. Current BLS certification must be maintained. Other
duties may be assigned as necessary. Completion of a 2-day system
endoscopy education within 30 days of hire is required. Successful
completion of on-the-job training with documentation of orientation
and all competencies met is also required. Strong detail
orientation and the ability to multi-task are essential. Computer
skills may be required.
