in Macon, Georgia, 31201! Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: RN

Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CCRN (preferred) Must-Have: EKG
competency exam during onboarding Description: RN position in the
Intensive Care Unit. The facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level
1 Trauma designation. This is a teaching hospital with a chest pain
center and a stroke center. Each ICU unit consists of 10-20 beds.
Patient types include Critical Care Unit, Medical ICU, Surgical
Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, and Progressive Care
Unit. Patient ratios are as follows: ICU 1:1-2, PCU 1:3-4. LPN
ratios are typically 1:4-6. Most units will have 1-2 CNAs per shift
to assist with patient care tasks. Common skills required include
tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and
glucometer usage. Common infusions include insulin, heparin,
narcotics, paralytics, vasopressors, sedatives, and cardiac drips.
There is support from CNAs for vitals, blood glucose checks, baths,
bed changes, and patient safety. Unit secretaries are available
during specific hours, with house-wide coverage at night. Charge
nurses are present, and there is no dedicated IV team, but a PICC
team is available. A resource nurse is also available to assist,
along with 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services.
Telemetry monitoring is in place, with RNs signing off on strips.
The EMR used is EPIC. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems
are utilized. Travelers may be required to float to various units
as needed. The schedule includes weekend shifts with expectations
for holiday coverage. Requests for time off must be approved by
management. Scrub colors for RNs are navy, while LPNs wear ceil
blue. The unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented. 5
