A clinical nursing opportunity is available for experienced RNs skilled in step-down/PCU care, ideally with 2 years of progressive care experience. This contract role is based in Huntersville, NC, at a newly opening progressive care unit. The unit will begin operation at 50% capacity and expand gradually. Location: The position is located on a 12-bed progressive care unit at a medical facility in Cornelius, NC, offering a supportive team environment equipped with 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalists, anesthesia backup, and intensivist support (with some night limitations). The setting is non-trauma, non-teaching, and not accredited for stroke or chest pain. Free parking is provided, and shifts are scheduled with a balanced weekend rotation. Responsibilities: - Manage medically complex adult patients requiring focused PCU care including CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, dialysis, and insulin drips. - Perform nursing skills such as IV starts, central line care, wound care including wound vacs, NG tube insertions, tube feed administration, PCA and kangaroo pump management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. - Comfortable with titration of drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin via Endotool, and flexible to learn vent management and Precedex drips as needed. - Conduct lab draws independently as no phlebotomy support is available. - Utilize EPIC EMR proficiently for documentation and order entry. - Monitor patients autonomously with bedside monitors, no tele tech support available. - Float as required within scope of practice across multiple regional facilities, with fair compensation for travel time. Qualifications & Experience: - Registered Nurse license with minimum 2 years PCU experience. - BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required. - Experience with vented patients and Precedex is a plus but willingness to learn onsite is essential. - Proven ability in managing a 1:4 patient ratio in a PCU environment. - Comfortable floating and adapting to varying clinical settings. Schedule & Work Environment: - 12-hour shifts, day (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) or night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). - Weekend rotation consists of approximately 6 shifts every 6 weeks, with holiday work expected on about 75% of holidays. - Self-scheduling model with manager approval supports work-life balance. Additional Details: - Scrubs: Navy Blue - No phlebotomy or IV/VAT/Wound Care RN coverage on unit; mandatory competencies in these areas expected. - No telemonitoring tech; nurse responsible for patient observation on bedside monitors.
